Welcome to my little corner of the world.

I illustrate, make websites, and continuously daydream of stories to tell. In
my freetime, I occupy my myself with photography, 80's nostalgia, and various other geek activities.

Art 52 Week 10 – The Truth

August 24th, 2009

Been a busy week but I managed to sneak in this sketch. I’ve had this in my head for a few days but the detail was much more rich. Maybe some week when the ideas aren’t coming, I’ll re-visit this concept and try to make it match up to what’s in my brain.

The Truth

She gets up with her head swung down low down
Steps into the room
She says
Please listen while I sing my song to you
’cause it all slips away, it ends
Too soon

How in the hell did I get here
I still hear her cry the blues
Been in a daze for ten years
But I still can sing the truth

Heaven knows where we all go
All we have is what we get
When it’s gone, when will I know
Because I haven’t got it yet

Did you find that ride?
Did you finally fly?
While I sit here, kickin’ and bitchin’
Sayin’ gimme, gimme, gimme, gimme
Gimme what’s mine

I thought I had it all
I wanted more
No need for you
I slammed the door
I cut you lose
What are the chances that I’d walk in here
And find the truth

Art 52 Week 9 – Winter Fearie

August 16th, 2009

Finally done. One more to go, and then I explore new themes. :)

Art 52 Week 8 – Mean Bone

August 8th, 2009

So, I have been trying to get the colors for my winter faerie done for two weeks now. My brain is apparently bored, because I’ve been having a hard time focusing on it. I was listening to the song “Mean Bone” by Slash’s Snakepit, and this girl popped in my head. I figured, rather than forcing myself to do something and ultimately losing another week, that I would just draw her and hope it helps to refocus my mind.

I’ve got one mean bone in my body
and it’s one I want to pick with you

Also, to try and get myself motivated, here’s a sneak peek at Winter.

I also have a little notebook doodle from work that I forgot to scan. I’ll try to remember to post it as well.

Art 52 Week 7 – Social Tree

August 8th, 2009

This is what I spent my time on for week 7 of my Art 52 project. It is a little piece for work conveying the roots of social media, how brand is the strength/trunk of any business, and how the personality and strength of a brand can branch out into social media and bear fruit.

David LaPlante tells the tale in a much more exciting manner than I. :)

Art 52 Week 6 – Autumn Faerie

July 18th, 2009

I’m happy with this one. :)

I can feel that I’m started to get addicted to drawing again. A little bit of extra time this week has had me willingly wanting to work on my art, to the point it was distracting some nights.

I could push some of this further – namely the blade – but I’m leaving it here so I can start on the lines and colors for winter tomorrow.

Art 52 Week 5 – Summer Faerie

July 12th, 2009

Well, here she be. This is about 60% as far as the coloring job I’d like to see, but part of why I’m doing the art 52 thing is not only to discipline myself (I’ll never put myself and my art as a priority if I didn’t), but also to get used to working within a time frame/deadline. If I don’t find the time to push it as far as I want in a week, it forces me to reference that fact during the next week.

I will probably be posting an updated version of her as I wanted to include a bunch of shiny jewelry with her costume. I’m posting this before the weekend end so I can hop on this week’s sketch and hopefully make myself find extra time for a better coloring job this week. I also want to incorporate the whole life cycle – birth, life, death, and whatever comes after – into each season/faerie. Summer I see as life, thus her creation of energy/sunlight.

Not sure whom I’m doing next – I’ll probably go in order and do fall. We shall see who shows up as I start sketching tonight!

ETA: I’m thinking I’ll be warming her skin up, as well. Didn’t realize the hue is too cold until I stepped away for a few hours.

Art 52 Week 4 – Rainbow Brite

July 6th, 2009

Eh. . . I don’t like this one at all. I was distracted by the holiday when I started it last week, and now I’m looking on towards the sketch I have in progress for this week. I’m aiming to polish this week’s sketch up more than the last four, so I likely won’t be posting it till the end of the week. What’s in the works? A series of fairies! So far, this one-a-week sketch thing seems to be slowly helping my brain get back into scheming mode. I hope I didn’t jinx myself by saying that.

Anyways. . . yeah. The sketchy look doesn’t work well with bright colors, as the colors demand something more polished than a quick-n-dirty cleanup. Oh well – onward.

Rainbow Brite

PS – here’s a little teaser for my new site. A name change will also be coming with the new design.

Art 52 Week 3 – She-ra

June 26th, 2009

I’m a bit late this week as I spent an evening being an utter fangirl watching Revenge of the Fallen. The 80’s nostalgia has taken over. This was started Wednesday. . . fresh from the scanner with no clean up, so some things suck (the hand! I know it’s in the wrong position).

Another possible candidate for cleanup and completion. We’ll see how I feel about it in the future. The pose sucks so I may use this as a basis for a better illustration.

Art 52 Week 2 – Dance

June 17th, 2009

30 minute sketch with a quickie 40 minute Photoshop color job. I was going for a rough ‘concept sketch’ feel, I suppose, just to get my brain back into creating characters. I might re-visit this one in the future and create a finished piece from it. I could see this turning into a fun costume/jewelry and lighting study.

I like drawing dancing people. :)

Post tomorrow

June 16th, 2009

Art 52 Week 2 will be posted tomorrow, simply because I feel like adding some color to what I sketched. :)
