Sletch Dump

Sunday, February 21st, 2010

Hey all.

Yeah, I know. Yet another lapse in updates. I was in a car accident the beginning of January, and needless to say, having bruised up ribs kinda takes the fun out of sitting at a desk. I’m feeling better, however, and as a result I’ve been doodling again.

So, to get things going again, I thought I’d dump a whole bunch of work in progress sketches. The first two are illustrations I was working on when the accident happened. The other two are from the past day. I’m trying to tell myself to finish those old images before I get distracted with the new ideas, but the imp girl turned out to be much more playful than I indented. She wants me to finish her first. The mermaid will also be fun as I want to base her and her surroundings on koi fish.

I guess I’ll have to let them all duke it out. As long as I work on something, that’s what counts, I suppose. :)

Art 52 Week 13: Mask

Sunday, September 20th, 2009

I’ll go into the story behind this next week. I will be coloring this over the week ahead – I think I want to try a more realistic shading on her. I basically just had a desire to draw a mask of some sort and play with costuming. Who knows how her outfit will look once I fix this up and start to color it. Right now she’s a little big in the shoulders/body, but I just scanned this baby straight and dropped some color on. Fine-tuning comes after scanning. :)

I haven’t forgotten about the spring faerie. She’ll be completed whenever I finally get inspiration for the rest of her posing.

Art 52 Week 8 – Mean Bone

Saturday, August 8th, 2009

So, I have been trying to get the colors for my winter faerie done for two weeks now. My brain is apparently bored, because I’ve been having a hard time focusing on it. I was listening to the song “Mean Bone” by Slash’s Snakepit, and this girl popped in my head. I figured, rather than forcing myself to do something and ultimately losing another week, that I would just draw her and hope it helps to refocus my mind.

I’ve got one mean bone in my body
and it’s one I want to pick with you

Also, to try and get myself motivated, here’s a sneak peek at Winter.

I also have a little notebook doodle from work that I forgot to scan. I’ll try to remember to post it as well.

Art 52 Week 5 – Summer Faerie

Sunday, July 12th, 2009

Well, here she be. This is about 60% as far as the coloring job I’d like to see, but part of why I’m doing the art 52 thing is not only to discipline myself (I’ll never put myself and my art as a priority if I didn’t), but also to get used to working within a time frame/deadline. If I don’t find the time to push it as far as I want in a week, it forces me to reference that fact during the next week.

I will probably be posting an updated version of her as I wanted to include a bunch of shiny jewelry with her costume. I’m posting this before the weekend end so I can hop on this week’s sketch and hopefully make myself find extra time for a better coloring job this week. I also want to incorporate the whole life cycle – birth, life, death, and whatever comes after – into each season/faerie. Summer I see as life, thus her creation of energy/sunlight.

Not sure whom I’m doing next – I’ll probably go in order and do fall. We shall see who shows up as I start sketching tonight!

ETA: I’m thinking I’ll be warming her skin up, as well. Didn’t realize the hue is too cold until I stepped away for a few hours.

Art 52 Week 1 – Butterfly

Monday, June 8th, 2009

So, I’ve known for a while that I’m not disciplined enough to do a daily sketch/art update, despite how in reality, that should be my goal. I was recently browsing Flickr and discover a ton of 52 week studies – including my personal favorite, Plastic 52. I thought to myself, “Geez, you ought to be able to do at least a sketch each week.”

And so, this is the start of my Art 52 project. I’m hoping to update weekly, likely on Monday or Tuesday as they seem to be days where I have more consistent downtime in the evening. I may post a lame sketch, I may post pretty colored pieces. It will depend on the week. The important part is that I give myself a goal that I feel is obtainable while I get my drawing shoes broken back in.

Here’s my first piece – it is also the illustration I will be basing my new site design off of. Enjoy!

Wrapping up

Tuesday, April 21st, 2009

Sorry for the lack of updates. I’m finally wrapping up Girl on Edge of Cliff and am getting ready to move on to this lady. I also added a link to my Flickr account over there on the sidebar. —>

Almost finished with this one. . . Just gotta crank out the background, finish up (and move the position of) that phoenix, and detail the lady.

More WIP

Sunday, March 8th, 2009

I feel like I’m shading and choosing my palettes like a beginner. In a way that’s okay, because I need the mental stimulation of learning artistically. I’ve let it be absent from my life for far too many months. Anyways, I’m starting to add in some jewelery and tattoos to give her a little more personality. I have a feeling she’ll be well adorned by the time I’m finished.

More in-progress

Sunday, March 1st, 2009

This isn’t much of an update as I’ve been sketching the last few days – which really is what I should be doing to get myself in practice again, now that I think of it. I came back to do some coloring tonight, and hopefully I’ll have another good evening tomorrow with more late-night updates.

Anyways, working on pulling some warmer colors into She Whom Sits on Edges of Cliffs to make her stand out a little more – the overall tone was colder than I wanted.
